Description
The first meeting of SLaCC (a QRA research group) will be held in Cumbria on 16-18th September 2015. It will be a 2.5 day meeting combining presentations and field stops. We aim to visit sites such as the Solway Firth and Drigg on the west Cumbrian coast. It is also possible to register for the conference day (16th September) only. For practical limitations there is a cap on attendance (30 people for the field trip portion of the meeting).
Schedule:
Wednesday 16th September
0830-1800: Conference papers and posters at Kendal College (Milnthorpe Road, Kendal, LA9 5AY). Registration will include tea and coffee, lunch and afternoon poster session drinks.
We are delighted to be joined by our keynote speaker Cecile Baeteman of the Belgian Geological Survey who will reflect on her career in a talk "IGCP and my journeys in the mysterious world of Holocene coastal sediments".
Delegates are responsible for booking their own accommodation in Kendal.
Thursday 17th September
Depart Kendal at 0900 (collection location TBC) to visit northern Morecambe Bay, Drigg sand dunes and a tour of the UK Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR). Lunch is very kindly being provided by LLWR.
Bed and breakfast (as part of the registration costs) will be at the Trout Hotel, Cockermouth. Rooms will either be a shared twin or a single room. To keep it simple we will divide the rooms on a random basis (split by gender); however please indicate at registration whether there is someone you wish to share with, or whether you specifically require a single room.
Registration includes an evening tour of the Jennings Brewery, followed by a pie and pea supper and samples of their ales.
Friday 18th September
Depart Cockermouth to visit the Solway coast. Stops will include the Allerdale Council exhibition of the Holocene evolution of the Solway estuary and sites of interest for Holocene sea-level change and archaeological importance.
Registration will include a packed lunch.
Delegates will be dropped at Carlisle railway station around 1430. We suggest booking train tickets for departures from 1500. It is possible to get a train to Kendal should you need to collect a car.
